Program Overview
Handy Youth Construction is a youth workforce development initiative delivered through the
Black Enterprise & Trades Network (BETN). The program introduces young people to
construction, skilled trades, and practical problem-solving through supervised hands-on
learning experiences designed to build confidence, awareness, and early workforce readiness.
Rather than directing participants toward one fixed path, Handy Youth helps young people
explore opportunities through practical skills training, mentorship, safety education, and
exposure to real-world industry environments.
Vision
Handy Youth envisions a future where young people have early access to meaningful career pathways within the skilled trades and construction sector. By building awareness, confidence, and foundational skills early, the program helps strengthen Canada’s future workforce while expanding equitable access to opportunity.
Mission
Handy Youth Construction introduces youth to the skilled trades through hands-on learning, mentorship, and real-world industry exposure. Through structured cohorts, safety education, and supervised technical training, the program helps participants build confidence and explore pathways into construction, apprenticeships, and related industries.
