Program Overview
BETN Core is a workforce and business development initiative delivered under the Black Enterprise & Trades Network (BETN). The program is designed to advance economic participation, business sustainability, and workforce readiness for Black entrepreneurs and trades professionals within the construction and skilled trades sectors.
The program responds directly to documented labor market demand and persistent equity gaps. Build Force Canada projects that the construction industry will require more than 350,000 additional workers by 2033 due to retirements and sustained construction activity. Concurrently, Statistics Canada data demonstrates continued underrepresentation of Black workers and business owners within skilled trades and construction-related industries.
BETN Core addresses this gap by integrating:
- Workforce readiness and industry certification
- Business development and compliance capacity
- Mentorship and employer engagement
- Access to employment and subcontracting opportunities
Rather than offering isolated training, BETN Core strengthens long-term economic participation by supporting participants at multiple stages of development — from entry exploration to business stabilization and growth.
Vision
A thriving and equitable trades and business ecosystem where Black professionals, entrepreneurs, and future leaders have equitable access to opportunity, resources, leadership pathways, and long-term economic stability.
